Spirit and Life Devotional is a daily publication by Pastor Chinaemerem Ibezim, senior pastor of Able Ministers Chapel, a church based in Calabar, Cross River State.
“Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.” III John 1:2
Some people do not think that Christians should prosper, talk about prosperity, or believe in prosperity; they think that people who desire to prosper are worldly and greedy. They are wrong.
Does poverty glorify God in anyway? No, it doesn’t. I read in the Bible, that Jesus was slain to receive riches! Look at it: “Worthy is the Lamb who was slain to receive power and riches and wisdom, and strength and honor and glory and blessing!” Revelation 5:12. If Jesus had to be killed in order to receive riches, God forbid that His death should be in vain!
Poverty doesn’t make people humble, it kills! Poverty is akin to paralysis. Even a poor church will not make much impact. If churches cannot meet the needs of their own members, how will they minister to the needy in the world? If Christians are believing God for food to eat and money for transportation and shelter, when will they pray for sinners in need of salvation and healing?
Jesus became poor so that we might be rich. You will prosper, in Jesus name. Amen.
