By Adeyinka Adedipe

D.Defenders survived Sokoto Rima’s scare on Tuesday at the ongoing Prudent Energy Handball League, winning 28-27 in a highly entertaining encounter at the Mobolaji Johnson Sports complex, Rowe Park, Yaba.

D.Defenders led by four goals after the end of the first half but they nearly threw away the game due to some uncoordinated play in the second stanza but had to rely on experience to win the game by one point.

Former Champions, Imo Grasshoppers continued their good run in the league beating Desert Queens 32-16 to stay in fourth position. The Imo team finished in the same position in the first phase and they are hoping to better their standing when the league ends on October 16.

Niger United continued their beautiful run in the league by beating Owena Queens 47-29, recording the highest goal so far in the championship. The Niger United side had no time for nicety as they attacked their opponents as they raced into the lead.

United have now won all their four games and moved to the third position and are hoping to qualify for continental championship.

Safety Shooters are also on a good run having recording their fourth win in four games after beating Borno Spiders 39-26 yesterday. Spiders tried their best but had no answer to the superior fire-power of Shooters.

Coach Aaron Okogie of Edo Dynamos described the tournament as very competitive with all the teams battling one another for the top prize. He stated that the level of the competition was high commending the sponsors, Prudent Energy Handball League for bankrolling the event.
