About 155 players will vie for honours at the Mutual Benefits National Badminton Championship which will begin today at the Mutual Benefits/Police College Badminton Hall, Ikeja, Lagos.
The event, which is the initiative of the Francis Orbih-led Badminton Federation of Nigeria (BFN), was borne out of the need to provide young players the opportunity to get the necessary exposure, with a view of reviving the game from its then comatose state.
This championship is one of the annual events where players garner points to improve their national rating.
To share from the N2.6m prize money, players are expected to make it to the last 16 in all the categories.
Top seeds, Opeyori Anuoluwapo and Dorcas Adesokan, will lead the charge in the male and female categories.
Next month, the players will also have the opportunity to take part in the GSK National Badminton Championship.
