The Prelate Emeritus, Methodist Church, Nigeria, Dr Sunday Ola Makinde has urged religious leaders and their followers to shun the insinuation and claims of tagging politics a dirty but rather consider running for political offices.
He added that such must however be done with the mindset of cleansing and sanitising the political system.
Makinde spoke in a sermon at the dedication of the Secretariat building of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Oyo state chapter, in Ibadan, on Thursday.
While noting that politics entail various dynamisms, the cleric said the current political system awaits the involvement of honest individuals irrespective of their religious leanings.
He therefore urged religious leaders to encourage their followers alike to participate in politics by starting to vie for Chairmanship, councillorship positions and move up to contest for higher positions.
Commending the Pastor Benjamin Akanmu led Oyo CAN for accomplishing the Secretariat project, he urged Christians and Muslims to eschew doctrinal differences and religious bitterness.
He prayed that the edifice serves to unite Christians and foster togetherness, while cautioning against the use of the building for immoral or secular engagements.
Makinde decried that some Christians had foisted reproach on the body of Christ, through their ungodly activities, warning that such persons will face the consequences of their actions on the judgement day.
Speaking in a remark, Chairman, Oyo CAN, Pastor Benjamin Akamu also harped on religious harmony among blocs to foster the progress of the Christian fold.
