Two people were hit by stray bullets on Thursday, February 15, 2018 when soldiers and civilians clashed in Aba, Abia State.
The victims are lying critically ill at an undisclosed hospital in Aba.
The injured whose identities were not ascertained at the time of filing this report were said to be hit by stray bullets from soldiers who were on a mission to rescue a soldier who had an open confrontation with a civilian along Uratta Junction on the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway.
An eye witness said that trouble started when a young man saw a soldier was malhandling a lady hawking local herbs and intervened to save her.
The youth was said to have appealed to the soldier to let the hawker go.
The soldier who was allegedly interpreted the action as an insult on his person, picked up a fight with him.
It was alleged by bystanders that the soldier seeing that he has been demystified hurriedly alerted his unit stationed at Christmary Hotel and Onions Market around the Uratta junction axis.
On arrival at the scene, the soldiers, numbering over 10 allegedly destroyed goods belonging to the traders even as they were reported to have also shoot sporadically to scare residents from coming close.
It was during this moment that two young men were allegedly hit by stray bullets who were rushed to the hospital in the city for treatment.
